Reinventing Revolution: The changing nature of Latin American Social Movements【電子書籍】[ Nicholas Williams ](3)

Seminar paper from the year 2006 in the subject Politics - Political Theory and the History of Ideas Journal, grade: 1,7, University of Wales, Aberystwyth (International Politics Department), course: Citizenship in Latin America, language: English, abstract: 'Our Revolution, which has been heterodox in its forms and manifestations, has nevertheless followed the general lines of all the great historical events of this century characterized by anticolonial struggles and the transition towards socialism.' Che Guevara: Cuba: Exception or Vanguard, 1961 'We are a product of five hundred years of struggle: first, led by insurgents against slavery during the War of Independence with Spain (...) They don't care that we have nothing, absolutely nothing, not even a roof over our heads. (...) But today we say: ENOUGH IS ENOUGH! General Command of the EZLN: War! First Declaration of the Lacandon Jungle, 1993. FOURTY-TWO YEARS LIE BETWEEN THESE TWO STATEMENTS, the statements of two Latin-American revolutionaries, equal in charisma, and by a mere coincidence both renown for the smoking materials perpetually accompanying their every moves. Yet far more lies between Che Guevara and Marcos than that the former was a cigar-addict whilst the latter goes nowhere without his pipe. This essay is no contrast between the two. It is neither a character-sketch of Che, nor an analysis of Marcos' poetry and prose, as the first would be ideal for psychologists, whilst the second task would be better performed in a literature department. Instead, I shall undertake to try and describe the changing fibre of revolutionary social movements in Latin America over the last forty years, explaining how Che Guevara's legacy, paired with the Sandinistas and other influences led to the emergence of the Zapatistas in today's Mexico. In saying this, I shall state here in the introduction that through the research for this essay my initial sympathies towards the Zapatistas, which I developed while seeing them in action in and talking to them in Chiapas, have strengthened. I maintain that it is better to state openly an opinion than to try and conceal it. However, in keeping with Sir Karl Popper, the objectivity should rest not with the person researching, as such a thing is impossible, but in the methodology employed. The methodology in this essay consists in taking Che Guevara and the Cuban Revolution and the Nicaraguan Sandinistas as preceding case studies, as steps in the history of revolutions towards the Mexican Zapatistas.
My Political Opinion【電子書籍】[ James W. Nelson ](3)

Chapter 1 Qanon (Qdrops)

First, what is a Qdrop? To answer that I would say learn to follow Q.
Each of those little tidbits (like one word) mean something.

QAnon is a far-right conspiracy theory detailing a supposed secret plot by an alleged “deep state” against U.S. President Donald Trump and his supporters. Same message to the “good” democrats. I usually don’t talk very nicely about the democratic party, but, folks, if you will NOT get mad and keep reading you will find that I understand WHY you stay with the party. But you need to keep reading and get to it.
Same to Muslims. Read far enough to see that I support the common Muslim people, but know that your Islamic leadership keeps over a billion people in ideological slavery.
So you know, I didn’t finish high school, lasted just six months in college (where one professor gave me a D, I guess just to pass me) so, no, I’m not smart, I’m just a regular guy with an opinion, and I think this country (America) is filled to the brim with good, regular, guys.
I started reading the newspaper way before my teensーthose were the days when newspapers still published the news and left opinion to the editorial page. You know, letters to-the-editor that anybody can write. Thank God, too, that I had my dad to help me with the many new words.
I do sometimes copy and paste but always announce it as “verbatim” so the reader knows. After editing and reviewing my book I can see that there are endless subjects to have an opinion about. The amount covered here is like looking at the infinitesimal dot the earth represents in our galaxy and our galaxy in the universe, which they say, goes on forever.
The book is divided into chapters. Some are very short, so maybe don’t look like real chapters. I did that for the sake of the reader finding what they want, quickly. Also I insert dates quite often. I wrote this in spurts so some material might not be in correct lineage. Also, I used material from my blog, so I dated each of those entries also.
One more thing, as I said, this book is opinion; I do not try to prove anything and certainly DON’T prove anything. In editing I have noticed I sometimes repeat myself, but I don’t think that’s a big deal. In fiction I would fix that, but this is not fiction.
One last mention. I advertise some of my fictional books (related to the political subjects) but they are easy to skip over quickly, under chapters New World Order and Human Trafficking.
Events are happening and changing so fast, impossible to keep up. Like I’ve said, I’m writing this in spurts and no way I’m going back and changing anything except in corrective editing.
The continual protesting/rioting happening shows people demanding but not truly understanding WHAT they are demanding. Unfortunately, they might just get their wish. Socialism seems to be on many of their mindsーand those NOT thinking that way can be swayed to follow the crowd. That’s how power and control works, a few people at a time. I will never forget President Trump’s 2019 SOTU address when he stated “This country will never be a socialist country.” The audience erupted in applause and standing ovation, except for the democratic women all dressed in white. Stone-faced they remained seated, except for one, if I remember correctly Kyrsten Sinema (she stood and applauded.)
One of the troubles with socialism, it starts out with the freebies and equality but as time passes everything changes until it’s too late to wake up.
There’s a lot happening in our good country, folks, and much is NOT good.

Antarctica What Everyone Needs to Know?【電子書籍】[ David Day ](3)

In this addition to the What Everyone Needs to Know? series, David Day examines the most forbidding and formidably inaccessible continent on Earth. For over a century following its discovery by European explorers in 1820, Antarctica played host to competing claims by rival nations vying for access to the frozen land's vast marine resources -- namely the skins and oils of seals and whales. Though the Antarctic Treaty of 1959 was meant to end this contention, countries have found other means of extending control over the land, with scientific bases establishing at least symbolic claims. Exploration and drilling by the United States, Great Britain, Russia, Japan, and others has led to discoveries about the world's climate in centuries past -- and in the process intimations of its alarming future. Delving into all the relevant issues -- the history of the continent, its wildlife, underwater mountain ranges, arguments over governance, and the continent's effect on global climate change -- Day's work sheds new light on a territory that, despite being the coldest, driest, and windiest continent in the world, will continue to be the object of intense speculation and competition. With new evidence that Antarctica's ice is melting three times faster than it was a decade ago, the need to understand the world's southernmost region has never been more pressing.
The Last Christian Village in Palestine【電子書籍】[ Kassam Maadi ](3)

In the West we have all but forgotten the Christians in the Middle East. This tender elegy paints the land of Jesus in new light. Taybeh's deep-rooted faith illuminates these stories of saints, olive trees, and the echos of war. Taybeh is a small village about 25 miles north of Jerusalem not far from Ramallah and with a beautiful view over the desert, the Jordan valley and the Dead Sea. The gospel of John says Jesus went to Taybeh -then called Ephraim- after he raised Lazarus to life and the Jewish authorities planned to put Jesus to death. Living amidst Muslim villages , Israeli settlements and military roadblocks, Taybeh's inhabitants are intensely proud of their Christian heritage. But Taybeh is to be the last Christian village of the Holy Land, its people mostly forgotten, even by most of their Christian brothers and sisters around the world. These expertly and lovingly created chronicles of Christian life in Taybeh remind us of the intensity of faith and the tragedy of destruction that are both present today, precisely where Jesus walked the earth. Every Christian would do well to read this exceptional book which received the prestigious Prix litt?raire d’Oeuvre d’Orient.
Barbershops, Bibles, and BET Everyday Talk and Black Political Thought【電子書籍】[ Melissa Harris-Perry ](3)

What is the best way to understand black political ideology? Just listen to the everyday talk that emerges in public spaces, suggests Melissa Harris-Lacewell. And listen this author has--to black college students talking about the Million Man March and welfare, to Southern, black Baptists discussing homosexuality in the church, to black men in a barbershop early on a Saturday morning, to the voices of hip-hop music and Black Entertainment Television.

Using statistical, experimental, and ethnographic methods Barbershops, Bibles, and B.E.T offers a new perspective on the way public opinion and ideologies are formed at the grassroots level. The book makes an important contribution to our understanding of black politics by shifting the focus from the influence of national elites in opinion formation to the influence of local elites and people in daily interaction with each other. Arguing that African Americans use community dialogue to jointly develop understandings of their collective political interests, Harris-Lacewell identifies four political ideologies that constitute the framework of contemporary black political thought: Black Nationalism, Black Feminism, Black Conservatism and Liberal Integrationism. These ideologies, the book posits, help African Americans to understand persistent social and economic inequality, to identify the significance of race in that inequality, and to devise strategies for overcoming it.
Hinduism and Buddhism【電子書籍】[ Ananda K. Coomaraswamy ](3)

The renowned Sri Lankan metaphysician presents his enlightening insight into the essential kinship between Hinduism and Buddhism.

In this probing work, Ananda K. Coomaraswamy examines the foundational myths and spiritual underpinnings of Hinduism and Buddhism. Discarding the Western narrative of philosophical divergence, Coomaraswamy instead explores the essential unity between these two major religions. In his perspective, one is merely an outgrowth of the other.

Dividing the book into two parts, Coomaraswamy begins each section with an overview of each religion's foundational myths. The section on Hinduism then covers concepts such as karma, maya, reincarnation, sacrifice, and caste. In the section on Buddhism, he demonstrates that Buddha never intended to start a new religion, but to deepen the spiritual understanding of the existing one.
