The words of Isaiah abound with prophecies for both his time and ours.

With insights so important that the Savior Himself cited this holy book of scripture more than once during His ministry, Isaiah contains messages that are clearly vital to our understanding of the gospel. But with its notoriously complicated symbolism, how do we begin to decipher this sacred ancient text? The answer can be found in Learning to Love Isaiah, a practical guidebook from BYU Professor of Religion Kerry Muhlestein: we can deepen our comprehension by studying the scriptures chapter by chapter and verse by verse.

Featuring a range of gospel resources as support, each point of doctrine in each individual verse of Isaiah is contextualized with clarity, simplifying the symbolism behind even the most enigmatic verses. This guide also provides tools and training to assist you in gaining more understanding on your own. By discerning the meaning of both past and future fulfillment of prophecy, readers will find plentiful personal applications of the prophet’s words as they journey through the impactful holy book of Isaiah.

This book examines the critical role of communication in advancing knowledge and participation in the governance of global public goods (GPG). Central to any theory of GPG is the role of information, as raising awareness requires creating credible messages and narratives. The book highlights the importance of agency, understanding actors, their interconnections, and how they negotiate and govern GPG.

The book argues for a nuanced understanding of democracy, suggesting a broader interpretation that prioritizes public deliberation and reflection. Key premises include the necessity of institutional legitimacy, active citizen participation, structured partnerships, and transparent communication channels for sustainable development. The book underscores that communication is fundamental to change processes, sustainable citizenship, and the realization of human rights, including the right to information and freedom of expression. By doing so, it advocates for an eighteenth Sustainable Development Goal: responsible communication.

The book will appeal to students, scholars, and researchers of international relations, communication, and public policy, as well as to policy-makers and professionals at international organizations, think tanks, and NGOs seeking theoretical foundations for communication strategies and stakeholder engagement practices.

The world of moral theory finds no place for the idea of integrity. The natural intellectual home of the idea of integrity is the American pragmatist tradition. Pragmatism makes possible an account of integrity that enables it to become philosophically central in thinking about morality. The idea of integrity enables what Dewey called “a working theory of morality.” Other intellectual traditions, including those most prominent in the academic world of moral philosophy, ignore integrity because of its imprecision and its inability to deliver precise answers to questions about what is right or wrong, good or bad.

Recovering Integrity: Moral Thought in American Pragmatism explains how integrity can and should become central in philosophical thought about morality. Only within the intellectual tradition of American pragmatism may integrity achieve the intellectual stature it deserves as the central idea in ordinary moral thought.

The ideas of morally diverse communities are unified to a remarkable extent when seen through the moral lens of integrity. Diverse communities having diverse ways of life share similar understandings of morality; these similarities are important for understanding what morality fundamentally is in the human world. Philosophical efforts to explain “the nature of morality” or “the nature of right action” or “the nature of the good” founder on their ignorance of moral diversity in the real worlds of human history and culture.

Perhaps you think that your hands obey to the commands of your brain and are absolutely unable to do something by their own.Perhaps you have always been of the idea that mathematics are purely intellectual and have nothing to do with the body senses.Perhaps you were taught in school and thereafter that philosophy sprang up in ancient Greece from idle people that did not have to earn for their living since they simply took profit of the work of slaves.Slave labor has also been considered as the condition for democracy, with the assumption that it allowed the existence of an idle citizenry that took advantage of it and could then dedicate itself to political and cultural activities.

If you enjoy being astonished, however, you may find many of these prejudices are brought down or at least placed under a magnifying glass to ascertain whether they are acceptable or not.

I myself was amazed to realize that I had been walking along the path of embodied cognition in ancient Greece.

“Any theory of human intelligence which ignores the interdependence of hand and brain function, the historic origins of that relationship, or the impact of that history on developmental dynamics in modern humans, is grossly misleading and sterile.” (Frank R. Wilson, neurologist)

Along the history the prevailing vision has separated the development of human thought and intelligence from bodily actions, work and its associated techniques. Their links were forgotten or ignored for a long time and endure in the 21st century, amid digital age (forgive the paradox). Philosophy in particular has left aside the role of hands, the doing and work in general, as if one would think only with the brain, in a contemplative attitude.

This book synthesizes and seeks to share part of a longstanding research on the relationship between manual and intellectual work in the origins of Western culture and the many prejudices installed over the centuries, many of which still survive, like that of the computational analogy that assimilates hardware to the body and software to the brain, mind or intelligence.

A multidisciplinary approach proposes a very different way of understanding the interaction between hands and brains, manual and intellectual activities. Noticing this can profoundly change our view. The path to be traveled, at times arduous and winding, leads to unexpected and surprising landscapes.

I personally find this particular topic very hard to comprehend, at this point in time, the population on earth, the planet we live on is about 7.8 billion people, it definitely is a huge number, but when you think that only 224 years ago, the population was around 1 billion its quite frightening to realise the dramatic growth. Parts of the Asian continent are more responsible for this when you understand that the population of China and India equate to about 2.9 billion people. So this roughly means that 37% of the world population is S.E Asian, and the population of Asia as a continent is about 4.6 billion . I've documented this fact, not to criticise or condemn Asia because in reality the world is still a hugely unpopulated place. Now I can understand that most readers will be disputing my statement, but stop for a minute and think about it.

A VINE is planted solely for the sake of its fruit. There are many sorts of vines, each with its different sort of fruit. When a husbandman plants a vine or a vineyard, he selects that special sort of which he desires to have the fruit. The fruit will be the manifestation of his purpose. When God planted the Heavenly Vine, it was that its fruit might bring life and strength to dying men. The very life of God, which man had lost by the fall, was to be brought back to him by Christ from heaven; Christ was to be to men the True Tree of Life. In Him, the True, the Heavenly Vine, in His Word and work, in His life and death, the life of God was brought within reach of men; all who should eat of the fruit should live for ever.
More wonderful still, Christ’s disciples should not only eat and live, but in their turn again become fruit-bearing branches. The Divine life entering into them should not only dwell in them, but so assert its quickening power that it should show itself in the fruit they bear for their fellow-men. As truly as the Heavenly Vine, all its branches receive the life of God.

Loss can occur in many forms, such as the death of a loved one, divorce, or termination of a job. Healing Takes Time is filled with 52 meditations and reflections to help people experiencing loss start a journey of healing. This biblical resource draws on experiences from Galagher's life, and includes a theme, relevant Scripture passages, personal illustrations, and practical steps to take toward healing in each meditation. Just as a physical injury takes time to mend, emotional and spiritual anguish require time, patience, and faith to heal. Perspective is often lost during painful times, and the Scripture passages in this book are a fresh reminder of God's love and faithfulness.

Most people have heard about the stages of grief, but knowing the stages academically is quite different from knowing them in the heart. Healing Takes Time helps those suffering loss, loneliness, and sorrow prayerfully walk through the stages of grief step-by-step. Healing Takes Time is ideal for support groups or people working at their own pace. This short, practical, and focused book is a helpful companion for anyone experiencing emotional or spiritual distress.

David P.
