In dieser Hausarbeit soll anhand der Untersuchung dreier Doktrinen exemplarisch die Bedeutung von Pr?sidentendoktrinen f?r die amerikanische Au?enpolitik und dar?ber hinaus f?r den gesamten Prozess des Policy Making in den USA aufgezeigt werden. Der Schwerpunkt wird hierbei auf der Monroe-Doktrin (Kap. 2) liegen, da sie nicht nur die erste Doktrin der amerikanischen Geschichte darstellt, sondern in ihrer historischen und politischen Dimension auch am bedeutendsten bzw. weitreichendsten war. Zu Vergleichszwecken sollen anschlie?end zwei weitere, entscheidende Doktrinen der amerikanischen Au?enpolitik, namentlich die Truman- (Kap. 3) und die Reagan-Doktrin (Kap. 4) untersucht werden. Nach einer groben Skizzierung des zeitgeschichtlichen Hintergrunds, der zum Verst?ndnis der einzelnen Doktrinen unerl?sslich erscheint, werden die jeweiligen Doktrinen dabei prim?r auf ihren Inhalt, ihren Zweck bzw. ihre Zweckgebundenheit und ihre politische Wirkung ?berpr?ft. Im letzten Kapitel soll dann zun?chst versucht werden, den Begriff der Doktrin in Bezug auf die amerikanische Politik zu definieren (Kap. 5.1). Hierbei muss unter anderem die Frage gekl?rt werden, inwiefern Doktrinen ?berhaupt Elemente des Policy Making sind.
