＜p＞In ＜em＞Tropical Aesthetics of Black Modernism＜/em＞, Samantha A. No?l investigates how Black Caribbean and American artists of the early twentieth century responded to and challenged colonial and other white-dominant regimes through tropicalist representation. With depictions of tropical scenery and landscapes situated throughout the African diaspora, performances staged in tropical settings, and bodily expressions of tropicality during Carnival, artists such as Aaron Douglas, Wifredo Lam, Josephine Baker, and Maya Angelou developed what No?l calls “tropical aesthetics”ーusing art to name and reclaim spaces of Black sovereignty. As a unifying element in the Caribbean modern art movement and the Harlem Renaissance, tropical aesthetics became a way for visual artists and performers to express their sense of belonging to and rootedness in a place. Tropical aesthetics, No?l contends, became central to these artists’ identities and creative processes while enabling them to craft alternative Black diasporic histories. Geboren wurde Tina Turner mit dem b?rgerlichen Namen Anna Mae Bullock am 26. November 1939 in Brownsville, Tennessee. Die ersten Erfahrungen als S?ngerin sammelte die kleine Anna Mae im Kirchenchor der Gemeinde Nutbush, Tennessee, in der sie aufwuchs. 1955 zog sie nach St. Louis um, wo sie 1958 Ike Turner und seine Band Kings Of Rhythm kennenlernt. Sie wurde Backgrounds?ngerin und nahm 1960 das erste Lied "A Fool in Love" als Solos?ngerin auf. Der Titel schaffte es auf Platz 27 der US-Charts, Ike gab ihr den Namen Tina und nannte seine Band in "Ike & Tina Turner" um. 1962 heirateten die beiden in Tijuana/Mexiko. Es folgte eine Tournee mit den Rolling Stones und 1966 die Aufnahme mit Produzent Phil Spector von "River Deep, Mountain High". Das machte Ike & Tina Turner auch in Europa bekannt. Im Gegensatz zum Erfolg standen private Probleme von Tina Turner. Ike Turner nahm immer mehr Drogen, entwickelte sich zu einem wahren Tyrannen und schlug Tina Turner immer h?ufiger. 1976 verlie? sie Ike und beantragte die Scheidung, die 1978 rechtskr?ftig wurde. Sie behielt einzig ihren K?nstlernamen und musste nun ganz neu anfangen. Schon 1975 spielte Tina Turner in der Verfilmung der Rockoper "Tommy" von The Who mit, die folgende Zeit als Solo-K?nstlerin wurde f?r sie aber sehr schwierig. Erst 1983 wurde die Single "Let's Stay Together" in vielen europ?ischen L?ndern ein Hit und erreichte in den USA Platz 26 der Pop- und Platz 3 der R&B-Hitparade. Den Durchbruch schaffte sie dann 1984 mit dem Album "Private Dancer". Schon die erste Single-Auskopplung, "What's Love Got to Do With It" schaffte es auf Platz 1 der Billboard Charts. 1985 erhielt Tina Turner ihre ersten drei Grammy-Awards. Bis heute sind es 8 Grammys! Dem Kino blieb Tina Turner verbunden und sang 1995 das Titellied zum James-Bond-Film "Golden Eye". 1999 ver?ffentlichte Tina Turner ihr bisher letztes regul?res Album mit dem Titel "Twenty Four Seven".
