***

'Few people walk the line of thought provoking and laugh out loud funny like Geoff Norcott.' - Romesh Ranganathan

'Where Did I Go Right? is sharp, considered, insightful, and helped me make sense of "the other side". And because Geoff Norcott is so funny, it unfortunately means I can't dismiss his views entirely. It's so important to have a friend you can disagree with but still admire and Geoff can be that friend to you!' - Katherine Ryan

"I've always thought the benefit of having batsh*t parents is it increases the chance of you growing up funny. It's certainly worked for Geoff Norcott." - David Baddiel

"Brave... and vividly evoked. [...] 'How the left lost me' is a phrase that should haunt Kier Starmer et al. Looking at the collapse of the 'red wall', at the last election, there do seem to be a lot of disgruntled Geoffs out there." - The Telegraph

"While I stand firmly at the other end of the political spectrum, it provided fascinating and well-considered insights into how the half think and, as such, should be read by both Reds and Blues." - Love Reading UK

'Voting Conservative is like buying a James Blunt album: loads of people have done it, but weirdly you never meet them ...'

Comedian Geoff Norcott should have been Labour through and through. He grew up on a council estate, both of his parents were disabled, and his Dad was a Union man. So, how was it that he grew up to vote Tory?

In this courageously honest and provocative memoir, Geoff unpicks his working-class upbringing and his political journey from left to right. Raised by a fierce matriarch and a maverick father on a South London council estate where they filmed scenes for The Bill, Geoff spends his youth attempting to put out kitchen fires with aerosols and leaping in and out of industrial skips. But as he reaches adolescence, his political views begin to be influenced by major events including the early 90s recession, the credit crunch, and a chance encounter with Conservative PM John Major.

As an adult, Geoff begins to have the gnawing feeling that the values and traditions he grew up with no longer match Labour's. And, as Brexit appears, he feels even more like a double agent operating behind enemy lines.

Written with warmth, wit and often laugh-out-loud humour, Where Did I Go Right? is Geoff's attempt to understand why he ended up voting 'for the bad guys', and why blue-collared conservatism could be here to stay.

Praise for Geoff Norcott:

'A mature, sharp take on modern politics' - The Sunday Times

'Gently abrasive, but that's what makes him so entertaining... with a sharp, self-knowing wit' -The Times

'Geoff Norcott genuinely has something original to say' - New European

'A refreshingly brilliant new comedic voice' - Spectator

'Norcott is an out-and-out rebel' - Express

Since first becoming a true believer in the power and importance of rock & roll as a boy in the 1950s, Art Fein has been immersed in music and the music business, taking on many diverse roles:

Journalist: onetime music editor of Variety, contributor to the Los Angeles Times, Chicago Tribune, Rolling Stone, Billboard and many other publications.

Band manager: Blasters, Cramps

TV host: Art Fein's Poker Party, a talk-and-live-music public access cable show that ran for 24 years. Guests included Brian Wilson, Dwight Yoakam, Dion, Alison Krauss, Ruth Brown, Jackie DeShannon, Dr. Demento, and loads more.

Record company staffer: Capitol, Elektra, Casablanca

Music Consultant, TV and film: Roadhouse 66, Tour of Duty

Album Producer: L.A. Rockabilly

Author: The L.A. Musical History Tour

Blogger: Another Fein Mess

Add to that: event promoter, photographer, record collector, and rock & roll historian.

In his wry, rollicking and insightful memoir Rock's in My Head, drawing on 10,000 (!) pages of journals he began keeping in the early 1970s, Fein recounts such incredible rock & roll adventures as:

A week working with John Lennon and Yoko Ono. ("I was in the unique position of coaching John Lennon on old rock & roll. Not many records got to Liverpool in the '50s, and a lot of mine were new to him…")

Watching The Band record and befriending Levon Helm

Hearing Ike Turner's legal woes directly from the legend himself

Touring the UK with rockabilly legend Ray Campi

Throwing wild, rocking New Year's Eve parties for hundreds of revelers with cars as door prizes

Cooking up an ill-fated album with Ringo Starr ("Twenty-six years later…I was chatting with Ringo and mentioned the rockabilly album we'd planned. He said, 'Did I do the album? Did I stay at your house? I was so drunk in those days.'")

In 1985, Fein did the one thing fans are always cautioned against: he befriended an idol, becoming part of legendary record producer Phil Spector's inner circle. That relationshipーoften gratifying, sometimes terrifyingーlasted through Spector's murder conviction in 2009. In Rock's in My Head, Fein shares startling and intimate details about Spector that have appeared nowhere else.

Rock's in My Head is the story of a diehard rock & roll fan who saw Elvis Presley on The Ed Sullivan Show, bought now-classic Jerry Lee Lewis 45s the week they reached stores, and then grew up to become an active ? and occasionally reluctant -- participant in that world. Fein writes, "It turns out I didn't want to be in the music business; I wanted to be in the music."
画面が切り替わりますので、しばらくお待ち下さい。 ※ご購入は、楽天kobo商品ページからお願いします。※切り替わらない場合は、こちら をクリックして下さい。 ※このページからは注文できません。

Dr. Edith Vane, scholar of English literature, is contentedly ensconced at the University of Inivea. Her dissertation on pioneer housewife memoirist Beulah Crump-Withers is about to be published, and her job's finally safe, if she only can fill out her AAO properly. She's a little anxious, but a new floral blouse and her therapist's repeated assurance that she is the architect of her own life should fix that. All should be well, really. Except for her broken washing machine, her fickle new girlfriend, her missing friend Coral, her backstabbing fellow professors, a cutthroat new dean - and the fact that the sentient and malevolent Crawley Hall has decided it wants them all out, and the hall and its hellish hares will stop at nothing to get rid of them.
画面が切り替わりますので、しばらくお待ち下さい。 ※ご購入は、楽天kobo商品ページからお願いします。※切り替わらない場合は、こちら をクリックして下さい。 ※このページからは注文できません。

Lively, entertaining, and inspiring, THE SHAPING OF A LIFE is in the tradition of the beloved bestsellers by Kathleen Norris and Anne Lamott*,* an intimate, lyrical, and thought-provoking memoir from one of the most respected and admired writers on religion in America today.

In THE SHAPING OF A LIFE, Phyllis Tickle recounts her life with honesty and humor, richly conveying both the external events and the internal insights and emotions. She shares stories of her childhood in eastern Tennessee as the only child of the dean at the local collegeーincluding her first inkling of the power and comfort of prayer and her realization that prayer required a disciplined routine, that it is "best practiced by a composed mind and spirit." She writes of the sense of freedom and independence she discovered at college, where she fell in love with the language and the teachings of The Book of Common Prayer and decided to leave the Presbyterianism of her childhood and join the Episcopal Church.

As Tickle chronicles her deepening understanding of prayer and the rewards of marriage, family, and a spiritual life, she reaches across the boundaries that separate one denomination from another and presents a portrait of spiritual growth and transformation that will appeal to devout practitioners and their less religious neighbors as well. Within a very personal story, Tickle reveals the keys that will help readers of all faiths find the path that leads from the everyday world of "doing" to the special place of simply "being."
画面が切り替わりますので、しばらくお待ち下さい。 ※ご購入は、楽天kobo商品ページからお願いします。※切り替わらない場合は、こちら をクリックして下さい。 ※このページからは注文できません。
