The Joseph Journey An Unlikely Path to Greatness【電子書籍】[ Dr. J. Scott Holmes ](3)

The Bible explodes with numerous personal stories of success and failures, examples of people God chose to preserve for the following generations to see and learn. Their stories remind us that hearing God, embracing His will, and staying true to His purpose often take unexpected turns in the journey. God has used their life stories of boldness and fear, humility and pride, obedience and disobedience to demonstrate redemption, reconciliation, and reward. Their stories provide hope, direction, and even inspirationーfrom watching how God engages humanity with grace and mercy and by observing how He fills frail humans with divine power and purpose. The most encouraging stories tell of people who have run to God and not away from His presence and purpose. The most impactful stories demonstrate lives of those who allowed God radical access and involvement. The most inspiring stories show imperfect people who in their failure find forgiveness and, in their weakness, find strength. These stories speak loudly today. They invite us to learn, to walk along, to listen, and to experience life through each occurrence. Joseph, the focus of this book, is one such personal story. Some accounts in the Bible are brief, glimpsing only into a year, a month, or even a moment of one's life. Joseph's life demonstrates the longer picture of an intense journey through years of trial. His is a dissertation of a persevering progression to maturityーfrom a baby of destiny to anointed influencer. He was forced into unpredictable, undeserved, and unbearable circumstances. Yet at every stage, his actions indicate that he kept his eyes focused on his God-given dream. Joseph has always spoken to us of dreams and destiny, of endurance and excellence. In this Joseph account, the focus is on the strength of purpose, showing his determination as he painfully wrestles the tag-team giants of "why" and "wait." The life of Joseph still speaks and teaches to anyone willing to get close enough to listen and learn. The Joseph journey is one of favor and frustration. His life deserves a careful look to learn how God was moving, teaching, equipping, and preparing a leader to walk in favor and step into destiny. Joseph had every opportunity to quit. He had all the reasons to abandon the dream, forfeit the favor, and surrender to an unfulfilled and frustrated destiny. He had nothing in the natural to encourage or compel his journey. Yet he never gave in to despair. His never-quit attitude through thirteen years of trial is our focus. Joseph teaches how to embrace favor, define excellence, and remain faithful in the journey to a God-given dream. Joseph will pull you in with inspiration as you identify with him in his fight to experience his promise, his dream, and his destiny. This book travels with Joseph through his life steps, showing similarities of his life with ours. Learning to persevere through challenges can enable you to rise to your destiny, just like Joseph.
The Theme of Promise in the Epistle to the Hebrews A Promise Remains【電子書籍】[ Dr. Daniel Stevens ](3)

Daniel Stevens analyses the use of the language of divine commitment in the Epistle to the Hebrews, arguing that the author distinguishes promise from the cultic language of covenant to sketch a unique mixture of continuity and discontinuity among the people of God across time.

Stevens stresses through an exegesis of relevant passages that rest is not the primary content of promise, nor is it the primary lens through which the other instances of promise language should be understood; suggesting instead that the promise is most closely associated with the benefits promised to Abraham, and then mediated through the various subsequent covenants. He further explores how the divine promise relates to both the Old and New Covenants, arguing that Hebrews develops a view of salvation history in which covenants are founded upon promises and then bring those promises to fruition. By demonstrating the ways in which this understanding of promise sheds light on the author's hermeneutic and on his method of achieving his hortatory purposes for the epistle, Stevens concludes in a reassertion of the consistency of the author's thought regarding promise.
The European Handbook of Media Accountability【

In recent years, the Leveson Inquiry in Great Britain, as well as the EU High-Level Group on Media Freedom and Pluralism, have stirred heated debates about media accountability and media self-regulation across Europe. How responsible are journalists? How well-developed are infrastructures of media self-regulation in the different European countries? How much commitment to media accountability is there in the media industry ? and how actively do media users become involved in the process of media criticism via social media?

With contributions from leading scholars in the field of journalism and mass communication, this handbook brings together reports on the status quo of media accountability in all EU members states as well as key countries close to Europe, such as Turkey and Israel. Each chapter provides an up-to-date overview of media accountability structures as well as a synopsis of relevant research, exploring the role of media accountability instruments in each national setting, including both media self-regulation (such as codes of ethics, press councils, ombudspersons) and new instruments that involve audiences and stakeholder groups (such as media blogs and user comment systems).

A theoretically informed, cross-national comparative analysis of the state of media accountability in contemporary Europe, this handbook constitutes an invaluable basis for further research and policy-making and will appeal to students and scholars of media studies and journalism, as well as policy-makers and practitioners.
History's Greatest Libels A Challenge to Some of the Great Lies of History【電子書籍】[ Steve Byas ](3)

George Orwell said, “The most effective way to destroy people is to deny and obliterate their own understanding of their history.” Liberals understand that they win victories today by distorting the record of our past. For all their devotion to the merits of tradition, conservatives think a great victory, such as the confirmation of Clarence Thomas, is the end of the battle. Liberals never concede the historical record, and neither should those who believe in limited government, free enterprise, and individual liberty. In History’s Greatest Libels, Steve Byas takes the battle to the Left, challenging head-on their politicized distortions of the past.

Corinth in Late Antiquity A Greek, Roman and Christian City【電子書籍】[ Amelia R. Brown ](3)

Late antique Corinth was on the frontline of the radical political, economic and religious transformations that swept across the Mediterranean world from the second to sixth centuries CE. A strategic merchant city, it became a hugely important metropolis in Roman Greece and, later, a key focal point for early Christianity. In late antiquity, Corinthians recognised new Christian authorities; adopted novel rites of civic celebration and decoration; and destroyed, rebuilt and added to the city's ancient landscape and monuments. Drawing on evidence from ancient literary sources, extensive archaeological excavations and historical records, Amelia Brown here surveys this period of urban transformation, from the old Agora and temples to new churches and fortifications. Influenced by the methodological advances of urban studies, Brown demonstrates the many ways Corinthians responded to internal and external pressures by building, demolishing and repurposing urban public space, thus transforming Corinthian society, civic identity and urban infrastructure.
In a departure from isolated textual and archaeological studies, she connects this process to broader changes in metropolitan life, contributing to the present understanding of urban experience in the late antique Mediterranean.
Ministry Digest, Vol. 2, No. 1【電子書籍】[ Witness Lee ](3)

In this issue we will continue the four lines of ministry that began in the first issue of Ministry Digest (vol. 1, no. 1). The first line--The History of the Lord's Recovery--continues with chapters 17 through 20 of The History and Revelation of the Lord's Recovery, which are in volume 2 of The Collected Works of Witness Lee, 1981. Chapters 17 and 18 speak further of the trials of the churches in Taiwan due to the dissension of a group of younger co-workers and the lessons learned from these trials, including the danger of a misplaced emphasis on "spiritual pursuit." These two chapters are then followed by a positive recounting of the advance of the Lord's recovery in Japan and the beginning of the Lord's recovery in the United States. The second line--Words for New Believers--continues with chapters 12 through 15 of Lessons for New Believers, which are in volume 3 of The Collected Works of Witness Lee, 1959. These chapters speak of various meetings related to prayer, the exercise of gifts, the study of the Bible, ministry, and the preaching of the gospel. Following this, the biblical view of the church is contrasted with natural and religious concepts related to the church. Then the expression of the universal church in localities is presented. Finally, the expression of the oneness of the church is contrasted with the causes of division that damage the oneness. The third line--Maturing in Life--continues with chapters 17 through 20 of The Way for a Christian to Mature in Life, which are in volume 3 of The Collected Works of Witness Lee, 1955. The first two chapters speak of maturing by turning our heart to the Lord and by being filled by the Spirit and of our need to turn to the Spirit for the transformation of our soul. The final two chapters in this section speak of the freedom, liberty, and glory that issue from walking according to the Spirit. The fourth line--The High Peak of the Divine Revelation--includes chapters 1 through 4 of a new title, The Divine and Mystical Realm, which are in volume 4 of The Collected Works of Witness Lee, 1994?1997. These chapters examine the inadequate theologies of traditional Christianity that have limited our understanding of the Spirit, who is Himself the divine and mystical realm that is our spiritual provision. It then develops a fuller understanding of the mystical realm of Christ's heavenly ministry that is carried out by Christ as the life-giving Spirit. As such a Spirit, Christ is both consummated and pneumatic so that He can bring us all into His divine and mystical realm. Last, eight aspects of God's organic salvation, which is carried out in the divine and mystical realm, are presented.

These Days of Large Things The Culture of Size in America, 1865-1930【電子書籍】[ Michael Tavel Clarke ](3)

The United States at the turn of the twentieth century cultivated a passion for big. It witnessed the emergence of large-scale corporate capitalism; the beginnings of American imperialism on a global stage; record-level immigration; a rapid expansion of cities; and colossal events and structures like world's fairs, amusement parks, department stores, and skyscrapers. Size began to play a key role in American identity. During this period, bigness signaled American progress.

These Days of Large Things explores the centrality of size to American culture and national identity and the preoccupation with physical stature that pervaded American thought. Clarke examines the role that body size played in racial theory and the ways in which economic changes in the nation generated conflicting attitudes toward growth and bigness. Finally, Clarke investigates the relationship between stature and gender.

These Days of Large Things brings together a remarkable range of cultural material including scientific studies, photographs, novels, cartoons, architecture, and film. As a general cultural and intellectual history of the period, this work will be of interest to students and scholars in American studies, U.S. history, American literature, and gender studies.

Michael Tavel Clarke is Assistant Professor of English at the University of Calgary.

Cover photograph: "New York from Its Pinnacles," Alvin Langdon Coburn (1912). Courtesy of the George Eastman House.

"A fascinating study of the American preoccupation with physical size, this book charts new paths in the history of science, culture, and the body. A must-read for anyone puzzling over why Americans today love hulking SUVs, Mcmansions, and outsized masculine bodies."
---Lois Banner, University of Southern California

"From the Gilded Age through the Twenties, Clarke shows a nation-state obsessed with sheer size, ranging from the mammoth labor union to the 'Giant Incorporated Body' of the monopoly trust. These Days of Large Things links the towering Gibson Girl with the skyscraper, the pediatric regimen with stereotypes of the Jew. Spanning anthropology, medicine, architecture, business, and labor history, Clarke provides the full anatomy of imperial America and offers a model of cultural studies at its very best."
---Cecelia Tichi, Vanderbilt University
